1. September and October full of excursions 1. September and October full of excursions Beautiful, autumn weather is conducive to rest and games in the open air. Walks, movement and greater physical effort are the excellent way to relieve the tension and the stress connected with everyday work or school duties. In the classroom the children usually work in a sedentary position, only PE lessons give the possibility to use accumulated reserves of energy which are quite impressive: this energy can be seen during the school breaks or lessons when pupils cannot concentrate and stay calm for the 45 minutes of the lesson. What results from the conversations with students is that they don’t spend much time playing football, riding a bike or going on short trips, walks. The most common answer on: “What were you doing in your spare time?” was: “I was watching TV, playing computer games, …etc” . Does the creativity of children end in the virtual world of computer games or reality shows shown on TV? An excellent way of spending more time outdoors are class trips or excursions organized by the school tourist club. It was the tourist club who started September full of excursions. The club is led by Ms Krystyna Pelczar. The first trip was organized to the Sub Carpathian Museum to see an interesting display of manor silver. Next proposal was a coach-hike rally on the following route: Krosno - Ciężkowice – Kąśna Dolna – Paderewski Centre. The group of pupils taking part in the rally had the chance to acquaint themselves with fauna and flora of the Nature Reserve “Fossilized Town” walking through the tourist route and watching exhibits collected in the Nature Museum – in the field of ethnology, ornithology and hunting. The children visited Penderecki country manor which is the only preserved structure in the world where the famous composer lived and composed. At the beginning of October a visit at the Missionary Museum of Klawerianki Nuns in Krosno took place and in the future a visit at the Bronisław Markiewicz Museum in Miejsce Piastowe is planned.
Students of the forth classes, together with teachers Agata Niepokój, Agata Reiss and Jolanta Wójcik, took part in the educational excursion wandering through the nature path around the Kamieniec Castle in Odrzykoń. They had the chance to observe changes in nature connected with autumn, they learnt how to identify trees and herb plants. The trip ended with a bonfire.
Students of the sixth classes went to Bieszczady together with their form tutors Ms Agata Niepokój and Mrs Krystyna Samborska and a few willing parents, to take a stroll along one of the paths in Bieszczadzki National Park. Despite the rain which welcomed the hikers, the zeal of our students chased away the clouds and they could watch the beautiful panorama of mountains. Successful excursion ended with a bonfire and grilling sausages.
Second class, with its form tutor Mrs Jadwiga Buczek, visited Żarnowiec and a country manor of Maria Konopnicka who is the patron of our school. With a bated breath they watched exhibits and listened to a tour guide who introduced them to the secrets of dwarves and Johnny Walker – characters of Konopnicka’s stories. They asked a lot of questions eg. “Do you think Maria Konopnicka was happy?” While listening “Rota” hymn they expressed great respect and stood at attention. After the museum lesson they had a rest in a beautiful, autumn park picking up colourful leaves.
Students of the third classes with Ms Danuta Chochołek and Mrs Jolanta Zajdel went on a trip to Krempna. A visit at the Educational Centre and a Magurski National Park Museum was the beginning of an incredible nature excursion. It began with watching the film about shaping the nature over the thousands of years, next the children watched showrooms presenting the nature in different seasons of the year. Children’s delight was aroused by the exhibitions showing spring, summer, autumn and winter forest: its layers and inhabitants. Nice surprise for everyone was the possibility to touch different species of trees in order to acquaint with their texture. It is one of the few museums where you can touch the exhibits! The descriptions of trees were made in Polish, Latin and Braille languages. After that the participants went on a hike along the nature path “Kiczera”. The tour guide acquainted children with a very interesting plant ‘colchicum’. Some of the pupils had the chance to taste a new flavour; they tried blackthorn. The tour guide allowed to taste its fruits, it was quite interesting, “tart” experience. Tired but very pleased third form pupils had a rest by a bonfire and when they regained strength they played team games and sang. Scatterbrained students paid forfeits, that is things lost during the hike.
Informacje zebrała Dorota Patejko On the 19th October 2006 we welcomed unusual guests – they were teachers from five schools cooperating with us within the confines of Socrates Comenius project. The children waited impatiently for the first meeting with representatives of the following schools: - James Brindley Community Primary School from the United Kingdom, - Ecole Publique Evecqemont from France, - Hannuksen koulu from Finland - Jäälin koulu from Finland, - 8th Demotico Scholio Aghias paraskevis from Greece.
After hearing the greetings in the national language, a trip around our school started. The guests curiously watched each and every artistic works displayed in the classrooms and corridors. Artistic activity of our students aroused genuine admiration and respect. After that there was time for attending Natural science, Maths, Computer Science and integrated learning lessons. All the guests were under great impression of our teachers’ work, who by means of their involvement and preparation to the lessons motivated students to active and creative participation in the lesson. The visitors emphasized the fact how hardworking, polite, creative and friendly the children were during the lessons they saw. They also expressed their respect for beautifully decorated classrooms and their equipment in teaching aids.
Everyone was impressed by the performance prepared by Mrs Dorota Patejko and her Drama Club “Without a curtain”. Beautiful presentation of the seasons of the year was taking our breaths away and aroused genuine emotion among our guests who expressed their thanks for the young actors several times. Our Comenius partners wanted to know as much as possible about learning and teaching at the school and also get to know its students. One of the teachers from Finland wanted to meet sixth form students in person and give them letters written by his pupils.
The next days were spent on meetings with town officials and authorities, visiting Krosno, palace in Łańcut and Wawel castle in Kraków. The time we spent together allowed us to get to know each other better, exchange of experiences and plan some activities for the next year in Socrates Comenius Project. Our guests admired the beauty of the Polish landscapes, they were also interested in history, historical monuments of our region and the whole country.
All in all, the third meeting of the partner schools gave us the possibility to get to know wonderful, open, friendly people devoted to their work. We were able to look at the reality from the perspective of five countries and we discovered that there are more things that unite us rather than divide. First and foremost we had the chance to talk about our common passion which is the work with children. Elżbieta Tkaczyk
This year’s St. Andrew’s Evening was filled with various fortune-telling. Dressed up students foretold future to their friends. They tried to predict who is going to be rich, happy, successful etc. Some of the students walked away from his or her fortune teller with a smile on a face, whereas others were very surprised and astonished. There was no lack of emotions! Unfortunately, in connection with the mourning announced in the whole Poland which was connected with the tragedy that took place in one of the mines, the discotheque we planned on that day was cancelled. Our head teacher mentioned about the tragedy that touched the families of the miners and said that the whole country and world was sympathizing with them. She also made a promise to students that the disco would take place in some other time.
