3. Project meeting in Manchester

1. Informing parents about the project

At the beginning of each school year in September a meeting of all parents with the headmistress and form tutors is organised. The aim of this meeting is to inform parents about the new school year schedule, priority tasks and to choose or renew The Parents School Board. This year we also announced our partnership in the international European Union Project – Socrates Comenius. The parents were told about general aims and activities planned for the 2005 / 2006 school year. We hope that all school society (pupils, teachers and parents) and also local community will engage into this venture.

 2. Autumn focus week

In September 2005 we started to realize tasks planned within the confines of Socrates Comenius Project. Throughout the whole month students of all forms with little help from teachers and parents were carrying out tasks which certainly enrich their knowledge on: “Four seasons for Europe : How seasons influence our lives”.

10.10. -14.10.2005 – During those days all partner schools from five countries had an „Autumn Focus Week”. Our school became very colorful and bustling at that time. Classrooms and corridors were decorated with posters, brochures, autumn compositions etc. The surrounding of the school also changed. Right next to the side entrance the students working under Mrs Agata Niepokój guidance made a small school garden where bulbs of crocuses, tulips and hyacinths were planted.

On Thursday 13.10.2005 we had an assembly during which the students presented their artistic works to one another.

  • Class II A – poster about themselves and weather calendar,

  • Class II B – poster about themselves, weather calendar and five artistic works on: “Different faces of autumn”,

  • Classes III A an IIIB – a brochure about the school and baskets full of fruits and vegetables growing in our country,

·        Classes IV – VI presented brochures about Poland , our region and many interesting places that are worth visiting in our country.

In that day the school gym was decorated with contest compositions made by I-III form pupils on: “Seasons of the year in Maria Konopnicka’s works”

Furthermore, during that assembly elections to the School Council were held.  Our school leader became Jolanta Kozubal (class VIB). Then we chose Miss “Rainy Day” and Miss “ Polish Golden Autumn”. The jurors were only those children who have number “ 13” in the class register. Paulina Wajda (class IV) was chosen as Miss “Rainy Day” and the title of Miss “Polish Golden Autumn” fell to Jolanta Kozubal (class VIB).

At the end of the school assembly Mrs. Marta Pelczar announced the winners of the contest on autumn bouquet which contestants were supposed to make together with their parents.

3. Project meeting in Manchester

James Brindley County Primary School – the hosts of the first meeting – greeted us warmly. The atmosphere of the meeting was really friendly. We’ll never forget our discussions, brilliant ideas, funny situations and all the people involved in the project.

It was very exciting to be able to get to know about the school, pupils and teachers. The children eagerly talked about their achievements and presented projects. We talked to the teachers about methods and planning their work.

The course of the visit was taken care of by three coordinators Odile Cyrille, Ruth Corrigan and the head-mistress Christine Ward. This all resulted in a feeling that  language is not a barrier that cannot be overcome and joy of meeting such nice people, whose openness and friendliness will remain in our memory as bright lights on the map of Europe.

We’re looking forward to the next project meeting in Greece. Our school will be hosting delegations in October 2006.
